Charleston South Carolina Vacation

My wife and I have been going to Myrtle Beach for the past 25 years and have decided that we would like to try the Charleston area. We both love the beach and unfortunately for me I love to play golf. We are looking at the islands just south of Charleston. Any helpful hints about hotels, attractions, restaurants and golf courses?

We are thinking of the early September timeframe. I know it is hurricane time then but earlier is just too hot.

Thanks

I don%26#39;t golf, BUT I know that in Mt. Pleasant, on Patriot%26#39;s Point Rd., there is a course. The Quality Inn and Suites, Patriot%26#39;s Point is a reasonable hotel, across the street, and apparently from what I%26#39;ve seen while staying there, quite popular with golfers. Maybe someone else while post re: how the golf course is?

Mt. Pleasant is a short drive from Isle of Palms, with lovely, public access beach. Shem Creek, in Mt. Pleasant, on the way to IOP, is a great spot for dining (and a view!). Personally, I love Vickery%26#39;s, with its great creekview dining.

This area is a lot more laid-back and quiet (in my opinion) than Myrtle Beach.

Unfortunately I am not a golfer either. However, I know that the Visitors Bureau has a web-site that lists all of the golf courses in the Charleston area and any of the hotels, cottage rentals, or condo rental will be listed that offer golf packages. You can visit www.charlestoncvb.com and click on the visitor link.

You should be able to find all the golf information you need for the Charleston area at charlestongolfguide.com. If you want to stay at the beach and golf as well, I would recommend staying on Kiawah Island.

I second staying out at Kiawah (www.kiawahresort.com) as you%26#39;ll have 5 course to choose from...you can golf to your heart%26#39;s content or until you break the bank...a round on the Ocean Course (1991 Ryder Cup Matches, 2003 World Cup, 2007 Senior PGA Championship, 2012 PGA Championship) is around $250 but it is a beautiful course!

Another option would be Wild Dunes (www.wilddunes.com) in Mt. Pleasant. They have 2 courses out there and some really good hotel/golf packages. Mt. P is only about 15 minutes from downtown whereas Kiawah is about 30-40 depending on traffic.

As suggested, check out the Charleston Golf Guide (fwww.charlestongolfguide.com) for all sorts of golf info.

I may be partial, but I think you and your wife will enjoy Charleston much more than MB...a little more sophisticated and less hectic. Enjoy your visit!
