We, my husband, 14 and 17 year old daughters and my self will be flying into Columbia mid-March and driving down to stay 7 nights on Kiawah Island. We plan to sightsee around Charleston the week we are there, my question is is there any stops between Columbia and Charleston that are a must see on our way down and/or on our return back to Columbia?
I have read a lot of your ideas around Charleston and the more I read the more excited we get there seems to be sooooo much to do.
I have heard and read about the Charleston Gill with the live Jazz band which sounds wonderful. A must for us, my oldest daughter is very much into music, specially Jazz and is excited about the atmosphere but we are not sure about the food. We are a simple Texas family where beef and potatoes and country cooking is what we are accustom too. Anyone have any suggestion on what to order or maybe another restaurant that might have a live band?
My younger daughter would like to go horse back riding, possible on the beach. I have not been able to find anything in the area. Any suggestions?
Traveling from Columbia to Charleston to Kiawah IslandOn the way coming from Columbia to Charleston you could stop off and spend some time walking around Cypress Gardens. It is about 30-45 min from Charleston.
About Charleston Grill- I have only been there for breakfast and the food is fantastic!! It is a little pricey and you are going to want to be prepared for a dressy casual atmosphere. Some other places that offer local music but I am not sure about the Jazz is Mistral- in the City Market, and High Cotton- on East Bay Street. I know that you can get on Charleston Grill%26#39;s web-site and you can print out a menu so you can prepare before you arrive.
Traveling from Downtown to Kiawah should take you about 45 min or less. Kiawah is a beautiful place to stay, you will be very pleased. Make sure you rent bikes while you are out there, they have a bike path that will take you around the entire island and it is very family oriented. Enjoy~!
Traveling from Columbia to Charleston to Kiawah IslandThere is horse back riding available on Seabrook Island, which is just past Kiawah Island. Call the Seabrook Equestrian Center at 768-7541 to get a gate pass and more information.
here is a link to a locla Jazz website. http://www.charlestonjazz.com It looks a little out dated but has links to several local jazz bands. Combine that with a look in a local free weekly paper, Charleston%26#39;s City Paper, should give you a good idea of who is playing locally that week.
the city paper also has a website but I dont think its concert calendar section reaches to mid march www.charlestoncitypaper.com Same your not in town this week as there is a large blues fest taking palce at several venues throughout the area.
another resturant that offers live Jazz is Chai%26#39;s Lounge and Tapas it is located on King Street but I haven%26#39;t eaten there myself. their menu consist of Tapas or small appettizer size dish. Traditionally Tapas are to beshared by the whole table so order a few and share.
Here si a link to the local newspapers Best of 2005 restaurants. I cant say I disagree with most of their selection.
