Planning a summer vaction to MB what time of the summer is better or worse if possible? More crowed? rainier? etc.
thanks
best time / worst time of year?
I would say the week of July 4th is very crowded. And pretty much all of July for that matter. Last year, we went the last week in June and it was not that bad. However you have to remember this is Myrtle Beach and it is always crowded. When you go to resturants, go early evening, say 5-5:30 to avoid waiting lines. The pavillion and places like Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing seem to be more crowded at night. So go during the day to avoid big crowds. (but remember it will be hotter in the daytime of course)
As far as weather, rain is a hit or miss thing. But when it does rain, it usually is a brief shower then clears up. August is typically the hottest month I would say.
best time / worst time of year?
I am thinking of going mid August right before my kids have to go back to school. I am familar with crowded east coast beaches just have not beedn to MB so was curious if there are less crowded times then others. Thanks.
August is pretty humid...you tend to get those breezes that come more from the land than the ocean, so not much releif from that. And, more chance for an afternoon showers with the sea breeze. Last August was a pretty dry one...the 2 before that, it rained alot, so who knows what this year will bring.
One thing I like about August is the ocean temp is great! Almost like bathwater! And, with more westerly winds, tends to keep the ocean calmer (unless there is a storm offshore), at times almost lake-like.
Crowds in August have started to dwindle, but still enough around to cause a bit of traffic at certain times of day. And with our schools in SC starting later this year (we used to start right at the beginning of August, now hopefully not until the 3rd Monday!) we may see a bit more people here...
Broadway and Barefoot will still be busy --- and REALLY busy on the nights they do fireworks (Tuesdays for Broadway and Mondays for Barefoot)
Have a great time!! :)
We go either the last weekend in June or one of the weeks after the forth and it anit to bad crowded then
My wife wont go at any time other than 4th of July week. Were from N.J. and rush hour traffic jams are a way of life in our area and even worse than July in Myrtle. The firework displays are great and on the 4th the beaches have their own vacationer displays like you wont beleive.
Golf is also at its cheapest in July and August. We stay at Forest Dunes on 55th and Ocean in Myrte Beach and its very easy to reach hgwy 17,31 and Grissom Parkway and also the Bypass.Learn how to use these roads to get around.
Worst traffic is after 5pm anywhere near the Pavillion Area the lights at Galleria Shopping Center and Walmart also the lights at Barefoot Landing.
Do (call ahead seating ) at Carolina Roadhouse
or get reservations at Bonefish Grille and Villa Mare and avoid the 1 to 2 hour waits.
June, July and August are the busiest months in Myrtle Beach. It is usually very hot and humid during those months. Afternoon rain showers are very common during that time but they usually do not last very long. Rain is very funny here. It could be raining on one side of the street and clear and sunny on the other side. Enjoy your visit!
