I am relocating to Charleston for a new job. I am looking for a house in charleston area. I will be working in north charleston(Zip code 29406).The Realtor is recommending Goose creek, Moncks corner, Summerville. I am not sure about these areas that my realtor is recommending. I am willing to spend 250K to 300K for house (2000 Sq ft). I would appreciate if some one from Charleston suggest me the good areas that I can look for. What about Mt plesant? Is it very expensive?
I will be in charleston next week.

The realtor probably suggested these areas because of the amount of square footage you want in that price range. Homes in Mt. Pleasant are going for around $175-185 a square foot on a postage stamp size lot. We looked in Mt. Pleasant for a home for over 6 months and finally gave up, getting something decent in the square footage we wanted required making a substantial jump in price. You%26#39;ll get a great return on your equity there, but it wasn%26#39;t worth being house poor.
We came out to Dorchester County and got a lot more home and land for our money and the equity on our home is doing quite well. Recent growth has pushed up prices in the rural areas the last couple of years as well though. Goose Creek, Moncks Corner and Summerville are all growing areas with homes still reasonably priced compared to Mt. Pleasant. Summerville has a reputable school district if that is something that concerns you. Good luck on your search.

Thanks ncjjm. I will start look into that areas. what about west Ashley? Is it Ok? what about the school district?
I will appreciate the comments
West Ashley is an okay area. Not familiar with the schools though, so I can%26#39;t really comment.
I would repeat the Summerville suggestion-the traffic is horrible going to and from NC, but it%26#39;s fairly close and a little less expensive, and the Government School%26#39;s are a little better. Not knowing more about you specific situation, it%26#39;s hard to make an exact recommendation.
