First time to Hilton Head, Need help!

My husband and I are planning a vacation to Hilton Head in May. Actually, we are still undecided between Hilton Head and Outer Banks but are leaning toward Hilton Head. We are in our early 20s and are just looking to relax and spend some time together. But, just curious, is there much to do in the area besides golf? Are there any shows, etc.? Also, where is the best place to stay on the island. We were considering the Palmetto Dunes area but not sure. Any help would be appreciated....Thank you.

We have vacationed in HH the past two Mays. I love the area that time of the year. The Moorings Condos in Palmetto Dunes are close to the beach and are very nice. Hilton Head has great restaurants, especially if you enjoy sitting outside enjoying wonderful views, etc. Several good bars with live music at night.

I recommend staying in Sea Pines on Hilton Head. If you want to be on the beach, with shops and restaurants nearby, check condos in South Beach area. If you%26#39;d like to be near the marina, lighthouse, shops, restaurants, look at Harbor Town. Rent bikes for the week and you can ride everywhere in Sea Pines. Especially nice to ride your bike in the morning from the Beach Club to South Beach for breakfast. You can drive into Savannah for a day trip or take a boat roundtrip from Hilton Head to Savannah.

If you play tennis there are very good courts at all of the plantations. I think you should go with your choice of Palmetto Dunes, as they are the most beach oriented of the plantations.

The Palmetto Dunes buggy will take you to the Arts Center which houses an Equity theatre company, though they may be dark the week you are there. The current show is ';Cat on a Hot Tin Roof';, which finishes on Feb 10th. They also have concerts there from time to time.

You can catch Greg Russell most evenings in Harbortown. A similar musical act has been available at Shelter Cove, but due to the change of ownership at Palmetto Dunes, it is not known at this time if this will be available.

Hilton Head is one of those places where there are more things to see and do than there is time for. But if you just want to sit around the pool at your resort and do nothing but read a book all day, and then go out for a nice dinner every evening, you can make a wonderful vacation that way, too.

To find out more about what%26#39;s happening on the island, check out the Calendar of Events at the Chamber of Commerce web site: www.hiltonheadisland.org

P.S. I%26#39;m not a member of the HHI Chamber, but I do appreciate all that the community has to offer.

You can schedule a kayak trip (I think it was for an hour-and-a-half) in the marsh area - It is a guided tour (two people to a kayak) through the %26#39;rivers%26#39; of the marsh. Dolphins swam with us during our trip, and many types of birds were on the sandy raised areas.

We also rented bicycless and rode along the oceas shore on the hard packed sand. Again, several dolphins seemed to follow us in each direction. Try to go at low tide so you can stop and run out on the wide sand bars.

Several movie theaters.

I believe there are a few outlets to shop at.

Stop in and see the famous lighthouse - near a marina full of beautiful boats.

Dreamer, my wife and I go to HH in early May every year, and we stay in the Village at Palmetto Dunes, we LOVE that area. It is an extremely beautiful area and very peaceful.

You are pretty much in the middle of the island, so you are not very far away from anything. Sea Pines would be your longest drive from Palmetto Dunes.

In order for us to get to the beach, all we have to do is walk around the beautiful lagoon, cross the street and then walk through the Moorings condos and there is the beach. Once at the beach, the Marriott and their oceanside bar are only about 75 yards away, for a cool and refreshing drink while relaxing and just watching the ocean!!

Palmetto Dunes is a great place to stay!!
