Kiawah Island

Getting married in April, looking for some ideas regarding Kiawah. Good idea, bad idea? Suggestions!

Kiawah Island

great idea...i got married there last October. What are your questions?

Kiawah Island

great idea! what questions do you have? I got married in Chasrleston and did everything else on kiawah

We were married 16 years ago and spent our honeymoon in Charleston. It is a WONDERFUL place! Returned to the area last year on business with our two young children (5, 9) and stayed at Kiawah and loved that, too. The Sanctuary had not opened yet, so we were at the main inn. There are serveral buildings, and ours was a short walk from the main facility. Our room itself was a bit of a disappointment; not bad in any way, but not ';resort-like,'; either. Just your basic hotel room. The inn did not seem to have any central areas other than the main lobby and a couple restaurants. They have several restaurants at various locations on the island that range in price and atmosphere, so there is something for everyone. (Overall, food is a bit pricey, however.) If you play golf (which we don%26#39;t), I think there are five courses, so you should be in golf heaven. They have tennis, too, but prices were a bit steep to make it worthwhile (with raquets I believe it was something like $40 per hour). Next to the inn is a small shopping area with a few boutiques, ice cream shop, etc. For us (we live in Connecticut), the best part was the pool and the direct access to the beach, which is wide and flat and soothing to walk. Some waves, but not too intense (like those we are accustomed to out on Cape Cod). Also, the towel service at the pool ceases at 6:00 p.m., so if you want to swim thereafter you have to supply your own towels. (We thought that was strange.) They also have bike rentals and a great series of bike trails if you enjoy that. We didn%26#39;t explore much in the way of wildlife, but apparently that is abundant as well. Overall, Kiawah provides a very secluded feel with a variety of outdoor activities. It%26#39;s proximity to Charleston (30-45 min) is an asset, but I don%26#39;t think most people would want to travel the distance more than once or twice during a week%26#39;s stay. It took us a day or so to get acclimated, but from there on we had a wonderful time and look forward to going back. Hope this helps!

tennisanyone - where did you host your reception and where did all of your guests stay? I am looking at getting married on Kiawah. Thanks!
