My family of five will visit in June. Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of each, especially regarding location? I%26#39;d like to be where the action is and safety at all hours is also very important. Thanks!
Embassy Suites or Hampton Historic District?
Both of these hotels are located north of Calhoun Street -- a little ways from the action. The Hampton Inn is directly across from the Visitors Center and the Embassy Inn is just down from Hampton a little closer to Calhoun Street. The Embassy is just next to Marion Square...a nice little park. I personally think both are a little too far to walk to the Market area and the rest of the historic district. While both are safe, if you go north of these hotels about 2 to 3 blocks, it does get a little sketchy but again, I have not heard about any problems at either hotel. If you have Hilton points or account, there%26#39;s a Doubletree right in the heart of all the action and it gets great reviews. Enjoy your visit!
Embassy Suites or Hampton Historic District?
TravelGirl is good! I agree that both hotels are nice especially the Embassy Suites having a full breakfast and afternoon cocktail hour. There are hotels that are closer to the downtown area. The Best Western, the Doubletree, the Days Inn and we have lots of other Historic Inns in that area.
We stayed at the Embassy Suites back in September (family of four). The location was good, nice to have the park next door, and we would walk over to King St. for dinner. The hotel is nice, although the room seemed a little dark (but was fasninated by the history of the building). We used our reward points so we could not beat the price...but I think next time we might stay at the Doubletree which is a little closer to the historical section (we did see people walking from the Embassy to the historical part...but we just felt it was a little to far to walk with the children). Also we felt safe enough while staying there...but you can tell a big change a few blocks down.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I%26#39;m now thinking about the Doubletree near the historic district.
