Looking to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary in June in South Carolina in/or near Charleston (4 nights) - we have never been there - we are close to 50 years of age so we would like to do to some exploring for a potential retirement home while we are there. Looking to stay somewhere upscale in Charleston or a nearby beach/island area. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly apprciated.

Are you looking for a beach getaway, or will you be exploring the city mostly?
If you are interested in exploring the historic sites for the majority of your visit, I would recommend staying downtown. Last Valentine%26#39;s Day, my husband and I stayed at the Thomas Lamboll house, which is a 2-room bed %26amp; breakfast on south King Street, one block from the battery. It was wonderful, and close enough to walk to all the sites, restaurants, waterfront parks, etc. Their website is lambollhouse.com. We found them through another great websource at charlestonbb.com.
Last August, we were eager to return to Charleston, but wanted more of a beach vacation. We stayed on Seabrook Island, which is the southern tip of Kiawah. It was absolutely fabulous. I had never seen deer at the beach before! The whole island is private, quiet, slow-paced (25mph), and mostly homes but one set of really nice oceanfront condos, which is where we stayed. We found a great deal on vrbo.com. It is about a 20 minute drive into Charleston.
Whatever you decide, enjoy!
