My family and I drive to Myrtle Beach from NY. I wonder if I%26#39;m driving too far. Does Virginia Beach offer all that Myrtle does or is it worth the extra drive to South Carolina?
Please, those among you who%26#39;ve been to both, what%26#39;s your opinion?
Myrtle Beach vs. Virginia Beach - Opinions??
Hello Chubby.. We are from PA and I have been to VB, but awhile go.. MB has alot to offer...and it is a beautiful place to visit..You could order the Stay And Play., it is a magazine..with the hotels/condo%26#39;s and things to do.
We vacation in August and our 3 bed/3 bath condo is about 925.00 for the week..
Myrtle Beach vs. Virginia Beach - Opinions??
We live in Michigan and have been to both too, although we didn%26#39;t stay right on VB but at a place in Norfolk on the beach. My observations are that MB is much cheaper and that, while it can be crowded, it does not have nearly the year round population and therefore is much more relaxing. When we were at VB we couldn%26#39;t believe how congested the whole Hampton Roads area is. Good luck getting through that two-lane tunnel between Hampton and Norfolk during rush hour, and as far as I know that is the main access to VB too. We drove around VB a lot, and it seemed a little older, dirtier, less safe than MB.
There are wonderful things to do in VB, but you may want to stay somewhere that isn%26#39;t right on the main boardwalk if you have kids. It is pretty crazy. Of course, the South Ocean Blvd. area of MB is crazy during the main tourist season too. We have had good luck staying on North Ocean Blvd. It is much more family-oriented and quiet than the main strip further south.
We stay in North Myrtle Beach.. very quiet..
resort..Ocean Creek, we book privately thru
owners.. it is right across the street from the shopping/entertainment complex Barefoot Landing..There are lots of places to stay, Kingston Plantation comes to mind..we children in ages ranging from 16 to 4..and always have a great time..
having grown up in Va Bch, and now living in the MB area, the very obvious question is what is the make-up of your family..your interests..how far you are driving, and how long you are planning to stay.MB offers more ';family activities'; and is geographically larger than VB (from a resort standpoint). if you want beach, uncrowded and very nice, go w/ VB north end (from about 59th St north) or south of MB in Litchfield; Huntington Beach State Park. from a cultural, non beach standpoint, VB has the edge over MB with more museums in the area (Nauticus, Chrysler Museum both in Norfolk). MB has more in the way of putt-putt golf, Medieval Times, Legends, Dolly Parton%26#39;s Dixie Stampede etc.i think there are more interesting restaurants (non chain) in the VB area, but again, w/o knowing the family dynamic, sometimes chains work best for families w/ kids...
also, when are you planning this trip, the 6 hr drive difference also can translate into a difference in temps too.
so, throw out some more detail about what you are looking for and when, and for how long..and we%26#39;ll go from there.
Why do you drive that far now? Have you ruled out all the beach resorts in NY, NJ, DE %26amp; MD?
(Then there%26#39;s also the Outer Banks).
If you%26#39;ve never been to VB, why not stop for a night or two %26amp; check it out (or any of the other beach resorts you drive by). With the price of gas, I%26#39;d be looking to shorten my trip.
I have lived in VB for 12 years. We love it lots of new things to do in the area. We have gone to Myrtle beach to get away from our beach before. If you golf MB is the place to go , if you want shows like Legends again MB is the place. Both have different things to offer, always nice to try something new.
I have stayed on both VB and MB. I always stay on beach front resorts/hotels. They are both very nice and have a lot to offer. I personally think the VB has the better beaches by far. I was not impressed at all with the beaches on MB. MB definitely has much more to offer for golfing and for young children to young teenagers. Waterparks, amusement rides, arcades,etc..
