To all visitors, please allow in your plans, 15 minutes to get a cab. On a busy morning checking out of your hotel it will usually take 5 to 15 minutes, so plan on it. Better yet get the front desk or concierge to set this up ahead of time with Maxwell or Black cab. I know someone who missed a flight because they tried to get a cab 46 minutes before her plan was to take off. This is enough time to get to the airport and check-in usually, but when you have to wait for a cab it is not. Remember it is not Chicago or New York.
You should know: Taxicab
I seldom have good experiences with cabs in Charleston. Back in February (mind you - not high season by any means), it took 45 minutes for a cab to pick me up at south King Street. For New Year%26#39;s Eve, I made reservations with a cab company 12 hours ahead of time. They even pushed the time back a bit, but I was willing to accomodate them, seeing as it WAS New Year%26#39;s Eve. But they never showed. I ended up driving into the city from Mt. Pleasant. It wasn%26#39;t as bad as I thought it would be. On my first loop, I was able to find a free parking space right on Calhoun.
Was anyone else in the city for New Year%26#39;s? What were your experiences? It wasn%26#39;t as crowded as I had expected, which was a pleasant surprise. We started out on King Street and headed for the Market area around 11pm or so. Stayed there til 2.
Maybe I should have opened a new topic...
