I am planning a family reunion for 100 in July. I had my heart set on Charleston but am now leaning towards Hilton Head and the Palmetto Dunes Resort. Can anyone give me some feedback on the Resort. Is it updated? We do this every year and like great places to relax but also have a few spirited get togethers.
Family reunion
The famous Renaissance weekend which Bill Clinton and his family attended was held for years at the resort. While they now hold it at other venues at least once a year, one of these weekends is still held there.
Palmetto Dunes is perfect for a large party. There are two Hotels, The Marriott and the Hilton, a short walk from each other.
Between the two there are two condos Villamare, and Captains Walk on the ocean. Your guests can rent 2 or 3 bedroom units in either of these complexes.
If others want the condo experience, but not necessarily an oceanfront view, they can rent at The Moorings, Fazio, or Captains Cove.
While you are there, guests can use the Palmetto Dunes Buggy, except for the Marriott which will take them to shopping, restaurants and other amenities.
You are within walking distance of the PD Tennis center rated on of the top tennis resorts by Tennis Magazine. There are three top golf courses in the resort. The Jones and Fazio courses are a short walk from any of the venues mentioned above. The Arthur Hills course is a short drive away.
The Tennis Center and the golf course can arrange for a tournament for your group, if you want to do it.
Palmetto Dunes is a community which is owned by the property owners (as of 1/1/06). There are 7000 people who own property in the resort. Prices range from $175K for a condo outside the gate to over $6 million for a waterfront home. The owners are proud of where they live, and the resort is kept in beautiful shape. In addition to the hotels, Palmetto Dunes has a few venues where private parties can be held.
I own a condo there and can attest that it is one of the prettiest areas on the island.
