Events During the First Week of March

We are arriving on March 4, 2006 at about 11 PM at HH Airport for a one week stay. We like to kayak, hike and ride bikes. We like Civil War history. Are there any local events scheduled during that week. We will go on a day trip to Savannah. We will be renting a car. If you had to choose between Charleston and Beaufort for a day trip, which place would you visit?

for things to do check these two web sites

The coastal discovery museum has events every day, including kayaking, civil war tours, hiking and other nature walks.

As for Charleston Vs. Beaufort, I have no opinion. Here are some highlights for each.

Charleston - Historic District has AnteBellum homes looking out on the port area. Travel to Fort Sumter, start of the civil war, The Citadel college and military school, the aquarium, the Ravenel bridge, which opened last year and is an architectural masterpeice.

Beaufort - Bay street also has a nice collection of antebellum homes including the house which was the site of ';The Big Chill'; and the ';Great Santini';. Stop by Parris Island and see the Marine Museum. Go on Thursday and see the graduation ceremony. Hunting island has a famous lighthouse which is open to the public.
