We are trying to plan our first vacation to MB. 3 adults and 4 kids(13,12,10,and 6). We want a OF hotel with pool. I haven%26#39;t been able to find any good maps of the area. We want to be with in walking distnace of some amusuments. I%26#39;m not sure if the pavillian is the only place with rides for the girls so i really have no idea what area to look in. We are in MD have always went to OC and stayed on the boardwalk, so we would like something similiar. We don%26#39;t want a bunch of older teens or young 20%26#39;s around us all day at the hotel but we don%26#39;t want to have to drive to go do everything. any help would be great. Also, i just recieved an e-mail about the sea island, it looks great. looks like it has just been updated, has anyone seen it?

Myrtle Beach is different than OC MD in that there is no ';boardwalk'; (concrete or otherwise) so attractions are much more ';spread out';. Unless you stay in the area of the Pavillion (which will be crowded and noisy) you%26#39;re going to have to do some traveling, by car or local transportation.
You also may want to avoid late May %26amp; early June (teens %26amp; young 20%26#39;s galore).
Thanks. How far is it from 6000-7500 block to the pavillion. How long will it take to get there? Any rec on hotels with suites in that area? thanks again

You will see that 3rd Ave is pretty much the center of Myrtle Beach (the Pavillion area). Like the other posts said, you will most likely want to stay away from this area, expecially during late May, early June. Try anywhere from 53 Ave. North and up. You will need to drive to almost everywhere you go, (i.e., Pavillion, amusements, shopping, resturants, etc). And even though there is a lot of traffic in Myrtle Beach, it is a very easy city to get around in. It only takes about 15-20 minutes to get most anywhere in the City limits, if that.
Also, North Myrtle Beach is nice and so is the Surfside Beach area, to the south.
We have stayed at Carolina Winds on 76th and had a very nice 3 bed/2bath condo. This was very convenient to grocery stores and resturants and maybe 15 minutes or so to the Pavillion and Broadway at the Beach.

6000-7500 north or south? The Pavilion is mostly between 8th and 9th Avenue North. I walked to it many times from miles away back in the 70%26#39;s. The 1st time I visited it was around 1963 when we stayed at the Contennial Motel only a block or 2 away but it%26#39;s long gone as are the guys that used to dive in 2 foot of water from 60-70 feet up in the main square. I visited the Magic Attic many times as a teenager and saw some great bands of the day. The Pavilion has changed a lot but it%26#39;s a great place for teenagers.

Oh my gosh! I remember those diving guys! We used to stay at the Bay Shore Motel, a little grungy place about one block from the Gay Dolphin. This was in the 60%26#39;s. Last year the building was still there, but roped off like they were going to tear it down.
greg21001, you need to take your kids into the Gay Dolphin. It%26#39;s a landmark souviner shop just down from the Pavillion. I swear the stuff they have in there now is the same exact stuff that was there in the 60%26#39;s. I don%26#39;t mean a new supply of the stuff, I mean the SAME STUFF.
Really cheap, cheesy things. But it%26#39;s fun to go in there.
MB is definitely an area that you have to drive around more than OC.
There is a smaller amusement park just south of the Pavillion called Family Amusement or something like that). It is within walking distance of the Seacrest Resort %26amp; many of the other places. It%26#39;s probably a bit small for the older kids.
If you are staying north of the Pavillion near the 29th %26amp; 30th street area it is just a short drive to Broadway at the Beach. There are restaurants %26amp; putt-putts withing walking distance. I have stayed at Caribbean resort in that area.
I agree with some of the other posters...you definitely want to visit the Pavillion area but it is best to stay a bit north or south.
Alot of great advice for your 1st MB trip! I agree with beachlady..the Gay Dolphin is a great place -- a must visit!
The Sea Island was completely demolished and will be brand new from ground up! Looks fantastic so far...I havent had a chance to tour the inside yet, but from the outside, the beach side looks great, nice wide balconies..and the beach there is great! Problem being staying in that area you wont be walking to any of the amusements, with maybe the excpetion of mini-golf, and the hotel amenities. But like the other posters have stated its not hard to get around in MB, and we do have a local bus service - LYMO - that runs to all the local attractions. You may want to check at the property that you decide to stay at if they offer transporation to any of these attractions, you%26#39;d be surprised at how many do!
