Sheraton convention hotel vs. oceanfront hotel for...

Need to choose between staying at the convention center hotel (SHeraton for $145/night for Deluxe double room with ocean view--half mile away)or at an oceanfront hotel (currently have reservations for the Hampton Inn %26amp; Suites at 1803 S. Ocean Blvd, $260/night for King Suite plus free breakfast and parking). Would much rather stay on the ocean, but concerned about the drive in traffic and parking hassles going back and forth to the convention center. Booked the Hampton Inn based on #1 rating by Trip Advisor--great reviews. It%26#39;s 3 miles from the convention center. WOuld we be much better off staying at a beach location on North Ocean Blvd., closer to the convention center? If so any recommendations? We like something newer and nicer. The Marriot at Grande Dunes looked nice but was booked for the week of July 4th. THe Hampton Inn looks nice, too. Most other things look old/cheap in comparison. Any gems we%26#39;re missing? If we do go with the Hampton Inn %26amp; Suites, any recommendations on requests that we shoudl make there? I read that there may be construction going on there this summer, so I still have to check on that. Someone else in our group has recommended the Dayton House, which is on N. Ocean Blvd., closer to the convention center. The outdoor areas look nice, but the rooms look a bit basic and worn. Is there a significant difference in the beach areas on S. Ocean Blvd (1803) compared to N. Ocean Blvd. (2300)? ANd what about hotels at Broadway on the beach?? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ADVICE YOU CAN SHARE!

Hi Dancetraveler...

Good Luck at your dance competition!! I was a Dancemom from Ohio. We had several trips to Myrtle beach with our studio. Once we stayed at the Sea Mist which is way south of the Convention center...which by the way is a beautiful building, check out the mural on the outside of the building! But no matter where we stayed it was only about a 15 drive to the convention center, and we made many trips belive me! Both my daughter and son danced! We danced for Studio L from Warren Ohio. Whats the name of your studio? I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;d be happier at an ocenfront hotel, don%26#39;t worry you%26#39;ll have a ball! So good luck again!

I think you will be VERY happy at the Hampton Inn %26amp; Suites. It is a gorgeous hotel...the cleanest in MB as well and of course it%26#39;s oceanfront. Only 10 minutes from the convention center.

Thanks anybob and DCLady--your replies are greatly appreciated!

Its always nice when you come to the beach to stay at the beach...the Hampton OF is really a beautiful property...and the staff top notch. They have won numerous awards here at the beach. As for construction, you would be hard pressed not to find some place in MB where there isnt any construction :) We%26#39;re just growing, and growing.....

Not sure what type of schedule that you will have to adhere to with the competition, and you will have to think about parking once you get to the competition, and then if you forgot something at the room...etc..so I guess the Sheraton option would be one of convienence, and the beach is just a short walk (less than 3 blocks) as well as a number of restaurants, and Broadway at the Beach is really close by. The rooms at the Sheraton are fabulous! The beds are incredible.

If you are looking at hotels at Broadway at the Beach, again, Hampton Inn Broadway is wonderful...but beware, they always fill up early especially with a dance competition in town! Its a great location, with lots to do, and within walking distance to the convention center (approx 1.2 miles)
