Plantation Transportation

If we don%26#39;t drive how can 2 ladies spend a day visiting Drayton Hall and Middleton Place? Is there a taxi or shuttle that will pick us up in Charleston drop us at Drayton Hall for a few hours then come back to take us to Middleton and then bring us back to Charleston at the end of the day?? Thank you.

Plantation Transportation

To my knowledge, there are no tour companies that take trips to Drayton Hall.

Here%26#39;s scoop on companies that go out to the plantations:

Charleston Tours at charleston-tours.com/new/plantationtour.htm

does tours to Magnolia Plantation and Middleton Place

Adventure Sightseeing Tours at www.touringcharleston.com does tours to Magnolia Plantation

Charleston%26#39;s Finest Historic Tours at www.historictoursofcharleston.com does tours to Magnolia Plantation and Middleton Place

If you can, you may want to rent a car for the day so you can go out and visit both places. The cost of hiring a taxi to take you out there, come back a couple hours later (all it will take at Drayton IF you walk the entire property and do the house tour) and take you to Middleton Place and then come back a few hours later will cost you much more than the car rental. Taxis are a little different down here than NYC and definitely more expensive.

We have a new black taxi cab company in town...the look like the taxi cabs in London. I think they can be rented for situations like yours. Unfortunately I don%26#39;t have a number or website so you may want to call your hotel and ask the concierge if they have contact information. That would be a grand way to visit the plantations!

Middleton Place and Drayton Hall will make for a very nice day! I will say that the house tour of Middleton Place is not the greatest (in my opinion) and I%26#39;d save the extra $10 charge and skip it. You can easily spend 2 hours just walking the property...that%26#39;s what my mother and I did the other day. The restaurant does serve a very good pre-fix lunch menu for $15.95. Make sure you check the brochure rack at your hotel for coupons as both of these places generally have a coupon in the visitor packs.

Enjoy your visit!

Thanks for the suggestions. The point is that the 2 ladies do not drive and will not rent a car. The costs for hiring a special tour via Charleston Tours etc. are prohibitive something more than $500 for the day. Just looking for a driver/transportation. No guides required. Are there no buses or shuttles from Charleston to these 2 plantations? Any good local car services for hire at reasonable rates? Thanks all.

There are really no buses that go out to the plantations. The only way to get out on shuttles is with the tour companies. You may just want to call your hotel and speak with the concierge to see if they can recommend a car service as they may be able to get you a good deal on the driver.

Ava email me at scjmj@msn.com - I might be able to help you out. Thanks, ncjjm

The Updated Carta routes that run in the city now have a bus route that takes people out to the plantations down HWY 61. I am not sure of the route numbers but they are on their wed-site on www.ridecarta.com
