For MBConcierge

Do you remember the Montego Inn on South Ocean Blvd? Hubby and I stayed there on honeymoon many, many years ago. Just wanted to know what hotel it is now. They either tore it down or remodeled and renamed it. Thought you might know. Thanks!

Well there is a Montego Beach Club at about 13th Ave. S...maybe that%26#39;s it? Things have changed so much just in the past few years here, its crazy! How long ago was it?

For MBConcierge

well, it was almost 24 years ago. LOL

I doubt it%26#39;s still there.

Thanks for your help. How long have YOU been there?

You never know...one of the first places we stayed here on vacation was The Pier View (near 2nd Ave Pier). The place was built in the early 50%26#39;s....withstood Hurricanes Hazel and Hugo (plus a number of other near miss storms) and is still there! Never really updated...still has old cedar paneling, wood frame...and GREAT balconies! I kind of miss some of the good ol places that used to dot the beachfront here...but that%26#39;s progress I guess.

I%26#39;ve been here going on 14 years now....love it! Moved from Illinois when our son went off to college! ha! You know alot about the area too....do you live nearby?

No, I%26#39;m in West Virginia. We used to go to MB every summer when I was little. Stayed at Bay Shore Hotel. Last summer that place was still there (just down from Gay Dolphin) but boarded up and looks like ready to be torn down. We%26#39;ve only been to MB 3 times in the last 5 years, but I love driving around and seeing what all has changed. When my kids were very little, we would go to Carolina Beach, NC. We loved it there but as the kids got older, there just wasn%26#39;t as much for them to do there, so we came to MB. My kids love coming down. I could do without all the commercialism, but as long as the kids are happy...;)

Hubby and I have always talked about retiring to the beach. We%26#39;ll see.

Yea, I think the old Bay Shore is just about history....in fact that whole area has really changed. Glad they finally put all the utility wires underground thru there...looks sooooo much better!

There are a number of people that live in this area that are from WV. Not a bad place to relocate to...and a number of folks have made it there retirement choice.

All the bells and whistles that they put here doesnt replace the real reason why most come to Myrtle and why most decide to make their home here...and that%26#39;s the beach!
