Has anyone stayed at the Governor%26#39;s House Inn in Charleston? It looks very nice but I%26#39;m open to suggestions - maybe the Planers Inn or the Wentworth Mansion? The Governor%26#39;s House looks like it may be cozier.

The Governors House Inn is the most beautiful place to stay in the city!

The Governor%26#39;s House is absolutely beautiful and we would definitely stay again. We stayed there for the first four nights of our trip. We then moved to a carriage house on the Battery - which ended up being terrible. Also, the staff at the Governor%26#39;s House are extremely friendly and helpful.
Thenks for the response. What is your opinion of Wentworth Mansion? I%26#39;m trying to decide between it and the Governor%26#39;s House Inn.
I really don%26#39;t know anything about the Wentworth Mansion, other than viewing their website. It does look like a very lovely place, however, I might agree with you that the Governor%26#39;s House might be cozier. We had the Barbadous Room at the Governor%26#39;s House for one night, and then because of availability, we moved to the Jefferson Suite in the Kitchen House. My Mother stayed in the Wagener Room -- which is great for one person. I have to say all of the rooms were beautiful, as well as the common areas of the house. They serve a very nice breakfast in the morning that you can enjoy in the dining room or on the veranda. The veranda is beautiful and simply a great place to sit and enjoy. In the afternoon they serve hot and iced tea, as well as lots of great things to nibble on. To me, the Governor%26#39;s House is what I imagined Charleston to be like before we visited. Lot%26#39;s of beautiful charm. We fell in love with Charleston - hope you enjoy it too.
I will have to agree and stick to my first post, the Governors House is just the best overall southern experience. The service is outstanding, all of the rooms are beautiful, the location is closer to walking to the sights, and the list can go on. Stick with the Governors House!
It looks like the Governor%26#39;s House is the first choice. Is is also preferred over the John Rutledge House acroos the street, which is a little less expensive?
Can you rccommend good restaurants that you have tried?
I myself would prefer the Governor%26#39;s House over the John Rutledge House. The staff at the Governor%26#39;s House called us about a week before our trip and asked if they could make dinner reservations. They asked what type of food we preferred. They made these recommendations: Hanks, Peninsula Grill, High Cotton. Our favorites were Hanks and Peninsula Grill. Upon recommendations from some other people we also ate at Carolina%26#39;s (again, one of our favorites) and the Boathouse on East Bay. I don%26#39;t think you would go wrong with any of these. Also, upon check-in at the Governor%26#39;s House, they provided us with cards listing the dinner reservations they had made and all the info we needed. You couldn%26#39;t ask for more helpful staff. I would recommend having dinner reservations whenever possible, as a lot of these restaurants get quite busy. Most of these restaurants have web sites you can check.
Thanks for the useful information. We only have 2 nights for going out to a restaurant for dinner. I checked menus, and they all looked amazing. Which were your two top favourites?
Hanks and Peninsula Grill. If for some reason, you couldn%26#39;t get in to one of these, I would select Carolina%26#39;s as my third choice. If you like dessert, Peninsula Grill has an excellent coconut cake - it%26#39;s huge so there is plenty to share.
