North Myrtle vs Myrtle Beaches

We have booked a 2 br condo at Laguna Keyes during the April break (4/15-4/22). My husband and I like the description because it seems to be quiet due to it%26#39;s location. My daughter (15 years old) is concerned that it%26#39;s going to be so boring and quiet with nothing to do with her friend. Is there anything within walking distance for them to shop, etc. or is everything driving distances away? Are we better off heading further south on the strand?

Thanks so much for any help.

North Myrtle vs Myrtle Beaches

Laguna Keys is at the point in Cherry Grove, which is pretty much residential, and pretty quiet. Guess I can understand to a point your daughters concern (and yours). You may want to check out a pretty good map at

sunnydayguide.com/myrtlebeach/…GS-all.pdf

This highlights a number of shopping, dining and entertainment areas...and will show you where Cherry Grove is in relation to some of those. Its about as far north as you can go without being in NC.

North Myrtle vs Myrtle Beaches

Thanks so much for the information. This website has really proved to be a wonderful tool.

After readiing alot yesterday about the area in general - it seems we still want to remain in the North Myrtle Beach area. I have spent HOURS looking for 2 BR with a private ocean front balcony %26amp; indoor pool (more for the girls if the weather is not the greatest in April so at least they have a place to hang) %26amp; still be reasonably priced. I can%26#39;t find anything that compares to what Laguna Keyes is showing.

I would possibly like to move down from Cherry Grove to maybe the Windy Hills section - are you aware of any realty suggestions other than Condolux / Condoworld/ Elliott / Chicora - I%26#39;ve looked at all those plus a few others I can%26#39;t remember.

When I spoke to my daughter about the response I received from you she just wanted to know if there is even a little ice cream or corner store they could just walk to on occasion (the more I read about the middle of Myrtle Beach I%26#39;m not too sure if I want them out and about by themselves anyway at this time of year - even though they would think it%26#39;s neat).

Know this is long but this is our first trip to the area and it%26#39;s a lot of $$ compared to our annual camping trips.

Thanks so much!

Did you check out www.vrbo.com?? This is a great website...its vacation rentals by owner. You can search either up in Cherry Grove, Windy Hill...just about wherever you want to be along the beach. I would take a look at the Myrtle Beach area and look at A Place at the Beach, Ocean Creek or Pelicans Landing. All of these are in an area we call Shore Drive. My cousins and their families have vacationed in this area for long before I relocated here. Its safe, with some stores, ice cream :)...resataurants and a cool little place called Ocean Annies which is a bit of a hangout on the beach.

I can understand the hesitation of being in MB proper with young ladies. But all and all the whole area is pretty safe. I dont think I%26#39;d stay in the direct downtown area, but other than that...its all still pretty much a family beach..well, most of the year anyway :)

Hello Penny,

I agree with MBConcierge, We%26#39;ve stayed in NMB for several years but haven%26#39;t been there in the last three years (we%26#39;re going back this summer). I too have a daughter the same age as yours. I have stayed in Cherry Grove once and the after that Windy Hill was our destination of choice. Not that we didn%26#39;t like Cherry Grove mind you. NMB is a lot quieter than MB and there is%26#39;nt much in the vicinity for a teenager to do if she is into arcades and rides and such. It is probably safer too if she wants to walk around a bit and explore the lifeguards :). Mind you everything is a short car ride away. Usually when we go there the daytime is devoted to the beach and at night we pretty much made it a family tradition to go out to whatever rides, arcades or mini-golfs the kids want to go to (we also have two teenage boys). They love their Myrtle Beach vacations, they were so happy when we announced that we were going back this year!

If youn are still looking for a place to rent I can certainly recommend ';Condominium Rental Services'; (www.condorent.com) I always dealt with them and always received good and courteous service.

Good luck to you I am sure you will enjoy your vacation and so will your daughter.

I would say stay at south MB at Coral Beach resort. There is everything there at the hotel. Pools, arcade, bowling alley, general store, gym, resturants. Plus it anit far at all from the pavillion and it is near wings and egals and and all them beach stores. That is were I would stay any ways. Here is there website.

Hope that this helps.

Recommend Ocean Creek. Great condo - pool

beach -location - activities-lots for the teens to do.

You may find on VRBO or thru Ocean Creek

directly.

It looks like Ocean Creak is a HUGE complex and far from the beach - crossing over a small creek? Am I seeing that right? All the input has been helpful. Thanks all.

Penny,

You are seeing right...Ocean Creek is HUGE! :) And with some of the villas it is a bit of a walk to the beach...but there is ALOT to do there...shops, ice cream :) beach, water park...alot!

If you stay at Beach Cove right next to Ocean Creek or Shorecrest which is right down the road you can easily reach Barefoot Landing with a 15 minute walk.Your 15 yr. old can walk to Dicks Last Resort, Alligator Adventure and Hamburger Joes.Theres also a House Of Blues in Barefoot.

We are from the Rochester area as well and go to Myrtle Beach every year. Also we have a 15 year old daughter who brings a friend along as well. We have stayed in MB and NMB. We found we liked the beaches better in MB-they weren%26#39;t as crowded than NMB (we stayed at Beach Cove)although we liked the Beach Cove hotel better. This year we decided to shoot for the middle and reserved a 2 bedroom oceanfront at Sea Watch Resort. We have never gone down to MB where the kids don%26#39;t swim in the ocean. Being from Rochester its summer weather to us! We are on the beach during the day and hit Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing at night.
