I%26#39;m bringing a birthday hubby on a surprise trip to H.H., and we%26#39;ve never been there. It%26#39;s in late Feb. He loves golf, good wine, great food (especially steaks) and romance! Since we%26#39;ve never been, we don%26#39;t know where to begin. He%26#39;s never been to the ocean (outside of Alaska, but that%26#39;s different) and so I would love to focus on that. Any great ideas how to make 2 days and 1 night extra special?!
Thanks so much.
One very romantic night w/ no kiddies! WHAT MUST WE DO?
Late February, the weather could be nice and warm or miserable. So forget planning anything for the ocean. If it%26#39;s nice, walk on the beach. The golf will depend on how much day time you have after your trip. (and the weather) I assume you will be driving. Perhaps your motel can help him with tee times, etc after he gets there. Some courses will be a good distance from where you will be staying.
It%26#39;s his birthday. Just get him there and let him decide where he wants to go and what he wants to do. He may just prefer to sit and watch the seagulls fly on the beach. Don%26#39;t plan too much.
As for one romantic night without the kiddies, pretend it%26#39;s a honeymoon. Go to the restaurant nearest your hotel, have a nice meal, some wine and go back to your room.

Thanks for the input. After much thought, I went ahead and booked an extra night! (the people at The Main Street Inn gave me a great deal, and I%26#39;m soo excited to go there.) 1 night seemed just too short. Is there a really romantic restraunt that overlooks the water? And do you know of any great little places for lunch?
I also checked into boat rides... looks like nobody%26#39;s doing that in Feb. How about horseback riding? Or anything else interesting?
I really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks! He%26#39;s gonna be so happy when he finds out!
since you mentioned that your husband likes good wine, you might try Red Fish restuarant on Palmetto Bay Road. They have an extensive wine list. It is a carribean style fish/seafood restaurant but i noticed they do have steaks on the menu. Their website is:
www.redfishofhiltonhead.com
Also, CQ%26#39;s in Harbortown is quite good. They also have an extensive wine list.
For lunch, I always enjoy the Salty Dog at South Beach Marina in Sea Pines. They have great frozen drinks. Truffles in Sea Pines is also very good for lunch or dinner.
Since i work on main street, here are some lunch places nearby.
The closest place to go is Port Royal plaza. Here you have Reilley%26#39;s North a sports bar, Bella Italia, Street Meat, Southern Kitchen, Fiesta Fresh. Bistro X,
Main Street Shopping area which is where Harrris Teeter is has the Main Street Cafe, Frankie Bones (Italian with an Attitude) and Mangiamo (Pizza)
Pineland Mall has El Carpaccio and Juniper Cafe.
For a romantic dinner with a view try the Old Fort Pub next to a authentic civil war era fort with a great view of port royal sound. Another choice which is a local favorite is the Sunset Grille located in a trailer park. A great view of the intercoastal and maybe the best filet mignon on the island.

Staying an extra night will make it easier to work in a round of golf if that%26#39;s what he wants to do. Have you checked to see if your hotel has a special golf package?
I had to laugh at the title - ';What must we do';! LOL that is so funny - romantic night with no kids and you have to ask! ? Best wishes! LOL.
Wow,
Thanks for all of the advice. I%26#39;ve got alot of restaurants to choose from now, thanks to ya%26#39;ll. I%26#39;m so very excited. One thing-
The Sunset Grille has great filet mignon, you say? Because unfortunately he will NOT eat seafood (a shame shamey shame) so I need to find that excellent steak to wow his socks off. And I get to try all the fresh seafood! =)
Best steak EVER in hilton head.
We need good food, and we have a pretty good idea what to do the rest of the night=)
Thanks all,
Atlantarock
If he is a meat and potatoes man, also try Cranes on New Orleans Road. Great Steakhouse transplanted from Philly.
Stan (hhiguy)
Red Fish is great. Cranes is very good. Alexanders is excellent.
But, if you want romance overlooking the water especially at sunset try the Old Fort Pub. It is located off Gumtree Road near the back entrance to Hilton Head Plantation.
Has a great view of the intracoastal waterway/Skull Creek.
The food is pricey but fantastic. Don%26#39;t let the name ';Pub'; fool you. This is a very high-end restaurant.
Have fun!
