which charleston beaches are best for young kids?

We%26#39;re looking near Charleson, South Carolina for a family vacation spot with wide beautiful beaches and calm water. Kids range from age 2 to 18. We want some action for the older kids but no huge crowds. Looking to go in July or August. Any suggestions on the best beach?

where are you going to be staying?

Kiawah is my favorite. The island is gated, so you have to be staying there or visit someone who is staying there to get on. You can get a day pass to go shopping or check out one of the restaurants, but you are supposedly restricted to parking in certain areas.

A lot of times we go to the public beach there; I think it%26#39;s called Beach Walker Park. You have to pay $5 or $10 dollars to park for the day, but there are public bathrooms and showers and all that.

If you haven%26#39;t booked your lodging yet, I would recommend staying on Kiawah. It is perfect for kids because it is gated and safe and there are bike trails and pools.

While Kiawah is nice, it is pretty quiet and not much happens out there. It%26#39;s great if you want a nice relaxing vacation but if you want some things to do and be close to a variety of restaurants, I%26#39;d pick either Sullivan%26#39;s Island or Isle of Palms. Both are on the Mt. Pleasant side of the new Ravenel Bridge and only about 15 minutes from downtown Charleston. July and August are pretty busy times here so which ever beach you choose, you will more than likely see crowds.
