I was wandering what the temp is in March? My family and I may be visiting MB in March sometime and I was wondering if it would be too cold for my 1 year old son.
March WeatherWell, the locals say that you can expect anything, but I can only tell you about our personal experience a few years ago when we visited MB the third week of March. While we were there, it was pretty chilly in the morning and evening but okay during the day. I think the warmest it got during the afternoon was 68 degrees, but the sun made it feel a little warmer. One day when we woke up the Weather Channel reported that it was 39 degrees-it was actually warmer back home that morning, LOL! We went to Charleston one day and took a carriage ride around the Historic District and had to wrap up in blankets because the breeze was kind of chilly.
That said, would I do it again? Absolutely! Here are the good things about going in March as opposed to later in the season which we have also done:
Nothing is crowded. There are enough people around that it doesn%26#39;t feel deserted, but it is a quiet group, mostly older couples and families with very young children. No ';Bike Week'; crowds or spring breakers while we were there, and it was very peaceful. One day we had lunch at the Allstar Cafe at Broadway at the Beach and we were the only customers for a while. The service was excellent! Sure beats standing in line for an hour just to eat lunch.
It isn%26#39;t unbearably hot. Sure, you might have to wear a light jacket and jeans instead of shorts, but at least you can walk on the beach without burning your feet and getting fried to a crisp.
Since the weather patterns change frequently in late winter/early spring, you might have a new experience like the storm that we witnessed while we were there. It sounds like a rotten thing to happen while you%26#39;re on vacation, but it was actually really cool. The waves were huge and amazing to watch from our room, and the day after it was calm and sunny and we found the most amazing things on the beach that we have never found later in the season. Live sea urchins, sea snails, really strange types of seaweed...it was cool!
We went to MB once in late May and it rained four days out of the seven that we were there. In other words, just because March is early in the season doesn%26#39;t mean that you will have a great time if you wait to go later when it%26#39;s warmer. We had a lot more fun the time we went in March than when we went in May and it rained a lot.
If you pack a jacket and pants for your one-year-old son just in case, he will probably have a ball!
March WeatherWe are going this March, for the first time and I have the same concerns as you. I have two teenagers though and hope that we can get some good weather while we are there. If not we%26#39;ll make do and have fun with whatever comes our way. I%26#39;m just happy to be going on vacation.
I think the above posts say it all! And being from Illinois my favorite saying was:
';A rainy day at the beach is better than a sunny day in a cornfield';!
We benn in Febuary and it has been in the 50%26#39;s but we are going for the first time in March this year. The avg. from www.weather.com from the first to the thirty first are 65-72.
It depends. Did you mean too cold for your 1 year old to play in the sand? I think you could bet on it. Yes. The water would still be too cold for a toddler. Well, it would also be too cold for most adults too.
Now if all you wanted was to bundle him up and walk around, it might be nice if it%26#39;s not too damp and windy. When it%26#39;s damp with a wind coming off the ocean, it can be bone chilling cold. It would be like a nasty cold day in Ohio.
I think that you have to remember that we have this large body of water called the ocean...right now the water temp is maybe 53..with that being said, if you have say 15 mph or better winds coming off the beach, and cloud cover..it would be cold no matter what the temp would be. On the other hand, if the winds were coming from the land side (westerly) or even a bit from the south...its amazing how much warmer it feels. Guess its like we have this natural airconditioner...sometimes its great, like in the middle of summer!
I have seen people with young ones on the beach in March..but dont think I%26#39;ve ever seen them in the water. The sand above the high tide line is usually pretty warm if the sun is shining...and it tends to retain the heat, so at ground level on a sunny day, above high tide, can be wonderful!
