When does summer vacation end for your kids?

While browsing summer hotel rates in Myrtle Beach, I noticed that rates drop dramatically for the last two weeks of August. I assume that this is so because many kids are returning to school at this time.

My kids return to school in early September. What about yours? Does this mean that tourism in Myrtle slows significantly before the true end of Summer?

We too live in New York and often spend our vacation in Myrtle Beach during the last 2 weeks of August. Most of the local kids are back in school at that time. However, that doesn%26#39;t mean that the fun ends! It just means that lines aren%26#39;t as long at many of the attractions and wait times at restaurants are more manageable. The ocean temp is awesome at that time! Weather is still very hot and yes you can get more rain but it rarely lasts. We actually prefer the last 2 weeks in August. Our kids range in age from 17-25 and there%26#39;s always plenty for them to do. As for the younger kids the water parks aren%26#39;t as crowded which is very nice. Myrtle Beach is a year round destination. Most of the attractions are open into October so you won%26#39;t have to worry about travelling in late August. Typically Labor Day is a busy weekend there as well.

When does summer vacation end for your kids?

People come from all over to Myrtle Beach. Many areas return to school even before Labor Day. Our elementary kids get out in our county mid-May. Just a little over a mile away in the next county it%26#39;s end of May. HS is different too...graduations well into June. Colleges have graduatoins throughout May in our area. And correspondingly they all start up at different times.

I remember the days of vacationing and %26#39;summering%26#39; till the very end....but nowadays parents like to do the school shopping end of August; also so many schools start sports practice, cheerleading and band practice long before school starts....giving kids only a few weeks totally %26#39;off%26#39;.

And college....you can%26#39;t get all the college students from the US and overseas that work to stay throughout what we used to think of as %26#39;summer%26#39;. They%26#39;ve got to fly home, etc. and get to all their new activites and job searches and text book hunting at college. Many go back before Labor Day.

Wow, this just amazes me. August is the hottest month of the year anywhere in the northern hemisphere.

How can kids go back to school early August? Are the schools air-conditioned? Way up here in New York it%26#39;s still plenty hot all the way into September. School in August would be just horrible.

Hello from Pennsylvania.. We vacation the third week of august in myrtle beach... the kids go back to school the last week of august..

get this.. for 2 days.. then go back after Labor Day..

Most kids in our area (Ohio) return to school by mid-to-late August.

Now that our kids are grown...we love to go to MB late August or early September.
